Re: Stirling faces gasification plans

Not sure what the current situation is as I have only just seen this, but there is no need for such a unit to be situated either next to a playground or on such a busy road. The Bandeath Industrial Estate (formerly the Royal Naval Armament Depot) in Throsk, which is clearly visible to the north of the proposed site, is an under-utilised space of around 700 acres and has the road entrance and infrastrucure to take this activity well away from a residential area.

I would also note that the proposed site must sit on or near to underground workings from the former Polmaise Colliery, which may impact upon its stability. As a child I lived in Bandeath Lodge itself: when lying in bed at night I used to be able to hear the conversations of miners working far below thanks to the amplifying effect of the concrete raft on which the house is built.

Developers should also be aware the many of the houses in Throsk have been subject to subsidence in the past owing to the workings and to the percussive impacts of heavy traffic on the A905. A major repair programme was carried out on the houses when they were part of the housing stock for workers at RNAD Bandeath and traffic levels along the A905 decreased significantly when other roads were built in the area. However, the underlying instability still remains, to the best of my knowledge.

Re: Stirling faces gasification plans

Thanks for the information on Bandeath Lodge, Simon.
I have just viewed the house and was unaware of the proposed recycling centre. I find it a shame that a small village is the proposed site for this recylcing centre and so close to a playground.

I currently live in a neighbouring village and will also be affected by the increase of traffic. I think it is a shame that the Scottish Goverment do not want to preserve small villages.

Throsk Community Council, Friends of the Earth, South Alloa, Dunmore, Airth,Fallin,Falkirk & Alloa don't
want the Gasification Plant Built, who in their right mind would build it next to a play area and housing,it seems
The Scottish Government would.
