INCINERATOR specialists Grundon are intent on pressing ahead with their appeal to the Scottish Government after the local authority rejected their Shore Road proposals.

And that has sparked a fresh attack on the company by Pete Wishart.

In their appeal document, Grundon insist their plans for an incinerator and a 260-feet smokestack would not impact detrimentally on a conservation area, or have an adverse effect on amenity.

Commenting on the company’s decision to appeal a council planning knockback, the SNP candidate for Perth and North Perthshire said: “Grundon still do not get it – their incinerator is not going up, and they can appeal all they like, but we are not going to let them desecrate our city centre.

“This has been perhaps the biggest local issue of the past year with an unprecedented number of objections. The council were absolutely right to throw this out and I am immensely proud to have led the campaign to have this stopped.

“Their appeal though is lazy and ill-considered. They have focussed on visual amenity and site constraints. I don’t know what they know about Perth but they are seeking to build a 90,000-ton incinerator next to the South Inch and an A-listed building. Their stack will be seen from practically every vantage point in Perth and any Reporter will know that this will have a disproportionate impact on the visual amenity of the city.

“I am sure that their very poor appeal will be kicked out, but if there is a scintilla of a chance they get this through it will be turned down using land owner powers or simply revoked. Grundon must understand that they are not wanted and they have no support. It is simply time for them now to go home and leave Perth alone.”
