Invergordon campaign group IINTW has launched a new petition demanding that Scottish Ministers recall the decision by its Reporter to give the go-ahead for a new waste incinerator.
The close-knit community of Invergordon has been on a roller-coaster ride over the past two years. In May 2008 locals were alarmed to discover that their small town was the subject of a planning application to build an incinerator burning up to 130,000 tonnes of waste per annum. After a long and determined campaign, they managed to persuade Highland Council in August 2009 to refuse consent. Almost immediately the company submitted an appeal that was later heard by the Government Reporter.
On 11 May, the Reporter decided to overturn the Council's decision, theoretically leaving the way open for construction to begin.
IINTW Chairperson Tina McCaffery, launching the new petition, commented:
"This is an Environmental and Social Injustice and we are not taking this lying down, with that in mind we have built a campaign web site where people can get up to date news as it occurs and created an official RECALL Petition asking the Scottish Minister to recall this decision to parliament."
The RECALL Petition link is below. IINTW asks you to click and sign and then pass onto anyone you know.
