Friends of the Earth Scotland have declared their opposition to large-scale biomass burning, with particular focus on Forth Energy’s proposals for Dundee, Leith, Grangemouth and Rosyth.
They point out that the proposals would require 4 – 5 million tonnes of wood a year – much more than can be produced in Scotland. Most of it would be sourced from abroad, where even so-called ‘sustainable’ forestry causes mass deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions and threatens biodiversity.
