Plans for a controversial biomass plant in Dundee have gone on display to the public.

Forth Energy wants to build a renewable energy facility and two 127-metre wind turbines in the city's harbour area.

The plans for the biomass unit went on show at the Overgate shopping centre on Friday as part of a public consultation exercise.

The company claim the development would create 300 construction jobs and 40 permanent posts, and significantly reduce Dundee's carbon footprint.

However, the proposals are facing widespread public opposition. A campaign group has been formed specifically to fight the wind turbines development.

Forth Energy Managing Director Calum Wilson said he hoped the exhibition, which continues on Saturday, would address some of the concerns.

He said: “The port of Dundee offers unique opportunities to the renewables sector and biomass has a vital role to play in this.

"Biomass is as reliable as coal or gas but has a significantly lower environmental impact and has the potential to supply renewable heat locally."
