George Watson, who has been leading the campaign against proposals for an incinerator that would burn 300,000 tpa of municipal and commercial waste at Arecleoch Forest near Barrhill in South Ayrshire, has now been informed that the proposals have been dropped altogether. Here is the letter he received from Rob Soutar of the Forestry Commission on 13 January 2011 -
Hi George,
I talked to Mhairi McKenna this morning and I am writing to confirm that Ashby Scott Projects Ltd have reviewed the practicalities and confirmed that the railhead is not a viable commercial option. They have discontinued all work concerning the railhead and all ancillary developments (including EfW) and will thus not be submitting any planning applications. We in Forestry Commission Scotland have accepted this analysis and will not progress any further business opportunities in relation to the railhead concept for many years at least.
For the avoidance of doubt, there will be no Energy from Waste Plant in Arecleoch Forest.
Regards
Rob
